Correlation and causation

Correlation describes an association between measured variables. A causal claim says that changing one variable produces a change in another and needs a design that supports that inference.

In practice

Businesses with more directory listings may also differ in brand size; an association alone cannot isolate the directory effect.

This is Outrigger’s working definition. Always check a study’s operational definition before comparing its findings with another study.
