Day 0: set the goal
Before starting work, agree what you will measure and when you will review it. A 90-day plan is a schedule for work and learning, not a promise of a particular score.
What a useful baseline looks like
The AI Visibility Score is a 0–100 composite over the declared eligible audit scope. Failed checks do not redistribute weight to successful areas; incomplete evidence can produce a partial lower-bound score or an unavailable score. The current full audit has five eligible areas; Press is excluded.
| Pillar | Current audit status |
|---|---|
| AI presence | Eligible when selected and measured |
| Entities | Eligible when selected and measured |
| Reviews | Eligible when selected and measured |
| On-page | Eligible when selected and measured |
| Citations | Eligible when selected and measured |
| Press | Coming soon; excluded from scoring |
Record audit scope, source coverage, tested prompts, and the date. A score is not a category rank. Changes in scope or failed measurements can affect comparisons even when the business has not changed.
Public benchmarks provide historical distributions for specific raw signals. Compare a signal with the same signal, using the published methodology and sample limitations. Do not compare an audit composite with a raw-signal percentile or promise a future percentile rank.
The three numbers you watch
- Composite visibility score: Read it alongside eligible coverage and the underlying findings.
- Share of Model (SOM): The share of sampled AI answers mentioning your brand. Record prompts, engines, and successful sample counts.
- Completed work: Keep a dated record of verified changes, such as corrected profiles or published content. Work completed and visibility change are separate measurements.
Review these together. No metric is guaranteed to lead another, and a before-and-after change does not prove cause.
What to do right now
Write down the business question, your current baseline, the work you can reasonably complete, and review checkpoints. Choose targets as working goals based on actual capacity and evidence. Adjust them when coverage or circumstances change.
